Ok, forgive the uber inactive blog of mine. Too lazy to update and with CNY and stuff, u get the drift. Now latest news, hmmm….

1.moved back to Raffles Hall.

2.started school

3.starting to hate school(again)

4.trying to get involved in teamseagrass(A monitoring group that checks the health of coastal shores ard singapore).

5.Ah Meng the Orang Utan passed away.

6.Wanna watch We Will Rock You The Musical .

7.CNY was good.

8.Valentine’s Day is a bitch(isn’t it every single damn year??).

Something my friends and I were discussing the other day. Women and femininity. Its been getting more and more common to see girls looking like guys. Inter-Hall Games Handball(female) finals, my hall were up against GUYS. I mean, BLOODY HELL, the girls of the other hall looked like tree trunks!..YES..THAT STRAIGHT, and yes, that BIG, i’m talking "Giants of the redwoods" BIG! ok..an exaggeration, but you get the point. I shudder to think how badly i’d be battered if they decided to tackle me.

I dun get it really, what’s so wrong about girls looking like girls? must they grow a dick?? And some guys i know, are going the other way~!! COME ON!! sheesh…

Ok i complain too much. Can’t help it.

On a side note, I do love being back in hall. frds are all there. no mother nagging abt wasting electricity lol.

Hope this sem works out as well as last sem. I can only hope.

till next time. cheers!

Pulau Ubin

January 9th, 2008 by shaunzechariah

Well, I kept my word. To myself. I went to Pulau Ubin, not once, but twice. On the spur of the moment, was lucky to get a best bud crazy enough to follow me. Thanks Edward.

The second time was with a larger grp. Edward(thanks again buddy!), Kelvin, Raffli and me. Eating in Ubin was an adventure and a comedy. Raffli and the Dogs. I thought the food in ubin was pretty decent. The UBIN Durians!! my my..were to DIE for. Bittersweet, just the way i like it.

Ok..Pics i took along the wayCopy_of_dsc01989

This malay stall, according to sources, sells excellent lontong and teh terik.

Dsc01991 Ubin Village. Lots of provision and bicycle rental shops. Pretty decent food too.

Dsc02004 One of the seafood restaurants in Ubin Villlage.

Dsc02068 Us 4 at the top of a ridge, overlooking one of the quarries, now filled with water.

Dsc02076

Dsc02082 On top of a tree tower. Overlooking part of the famous Chek Jawa. Dun ask me what we were doing; Acting cute i guess. Good gosh, NEVER again.

Dsc02019 Giant Mudskipper! Its huge. Edward was telling me he didn’t know this was considered big until he saw the other smaller ones on our 2nd trip. Now u know y i wanted to take pics of this one!

Dsc02022 ATAP CHEE!! ice kachang ingredient anyone?

Dsc02091 Have no idea what crab this is. Anyone knows?

Dsc02100 Barnacles. They actually are crustaceans belonging to the same subphylum as crabs. Fun fact: Barnacles have the LONGEST penis in relation to their body size. up to 7 times the length of their body!!OMG!!!

Dsc02104 The old cottage at the edge of Chek Jawa, now the Chek Jawa Visitor Centre.

Dsc02121 I think this is a Grey Heron. Might be wrong. The neck is actually long, but it sorta sucked it into its body.

Dsc02107 Ok u cant really see this. But perched on the rock is a Southern Pied Hornbill!

Dsc02098 Ok in the middle, a fiddler crab. Recognisable from its distinctive claw, One much bigger than the other.

I had a Real good pic of a Golden Web Spider but damn frdster won’t let me upload it. Till next time then.Ubin: Part II!

I really wanna thank my 3 frds who came with me. And Dr. Chua Ee Kiam, Uncle Ee Kiam to me. The author of Pulau Ubin Ours to treasure, Chek Jawa Discovering Singapore’s Biodiversity, Ours To Protect, Singapore’s Splendour and Sabah Borneo’s Tropical Eden. He got me interested in nature. Buy his books. amazing stuff! till Next time, Cheers!

A day at the mangroves

December 20th, 2007 by shaunzechariah

Woke up on wed and i suddenly felt like going to Sungei buloh wetland reserve. Spur of the moment really. So armed with a camera, binoculars and NO insect repellent, i headed down to Kranji. while walking to sungei buloh i saw this view of johor. Dsc01933

then the mangroves in sungei buloh. i sorta missed that. Been so long since i stepped into a mangrove to look at the amazing biodiversity there.Dsc01934

Dsc01935 Dsc01937

Dsc01943 Dsc01947 Plovers and sandpipers(i think??)in the mangroves.

Dsc01946

Then i saw some asian water monitors. these fellows are huge! 1.3-1.5m thereandabouts. Got some cool pics!Dsc01940

Dsc01976 Dsc01942

Dsc01980 I think i finally know how a male establishes its territory. It sees a rival and bobs its head from side to side. If that fails, both of them jump out of the water and try to bite each other into submission.

Isn’t the head a beauty?? Dsc01974

think they didn bother much abt me. I was like 2 feet away frm it and it still didn budge.Dsc01983

The rain was starting to get heavy and the mosquitoes were a bitch! 15 bites on both arms…shits…Couldnt go to the freshwater ponds and the shallows to see the herons and apparently a family of otters said to be residing there.

Till next time then…

Jet Airways-Launch of A330

December 12th, 2007 by shaunzechariah

I was at the launch of Jet Airways A330 today. dunno how many launches they had already but apparently, Thursday’s slots are full so i had to make do with today.

Anyway, a run down of what happened today. went to changi airport, got a pass at T1, went into the departure hall and sat on the plane and got served by the air crew. In business class no doubt, also managed to catch a movie(well, half of it anyway) amidst the dining. Here’s how the business class looks to those who have never seen it( my dear frds, neither have i, its an eye opener for me to see how well the rich get pampered while commoners like me dwell in the economy class)

Sp_a1342 Sp_a1343 Sp_a1344 quite nice, a little cosy cubicle by urself.

Sp_a1345

Sp_a1347

Then the food came. Its an Indian airline so the food i suppose was catered more for the returning indian nationals. First, Giant Prawn on a stick with some green-spiced chicken on the side. Quite nice. Served with champagne of cos.

Sp_a1348

Next, Soup. i think its some cream of sweet potato or something. nice but i didn like the stick bread.

The next was the main course, which was green curry chicken rice. Sp_a1349The sauces on the top was dhal, yoghurt and pickles.

The last was well, the dessert. Had a choice of ice cream, fruits or passion fruit cake, which i had.

Sp_a1350

Ohh, things to do. Go cycling in Ubin, when the weather permits. Go night cycling next week, when the weather permits. Go Sungei Buloh, when the weather permits. i notice a trend forming here. Damn it. don’t rain pls. i cant do shit with this unpredictable weather. Only thing predictable is the unpredictable weather.

I wanna CYCLE.

i cannot stand this! do u really think i’m….

November 21st, 2007 by shaunzechariah

The ASEAN meeting/summit was held earlier this week and i’m sure it got out that some people were restricted and stopped by our police and some were even told to turn away, the police didn give a good reason. How horrible! how can this happen in our country..such methods of policing!!

These people who are complaining…KISS MY ASS!

We all know the people who were stopped were stopped for a reason. A certain Ms Chee too was stopped and taken away. She claims that she was there for lunch. hahahaha…seriously, how many believe she was ACTUALLY there for lunch?? at shangri-la. at that time?? on the same day of the summit and low and behold, out flashed a videocam to tape down the event. how convenient!

Perhaps we should ask, what gave the police reason enough to stop these people for checks while the rest were allowed to walk almost freely? Unless u tell me that everyone was told to turn back, i’d say the police were wrong, but its just these few that are making a din. I can think of one analogy, If a class wall was vandalised and there is a known vandal in that class, 1st suspect would be….?? its a natural human reaction. in the same vein, u would want to "remove" from the premises certain people who are potential trouble makers. Can u blame them really??

And of cos, the fact that these people only appear during such occasions is suspect. If their intention was really to have lunch, too bad so sad. Shangri-la isnt the ONLY place in orchard to eat. If their intention was really to bring attention to the myanmar situation, i applauded their intention but not the method. Giving our law enforcers a headache, shame on you!

But, the million dollar qn is….Was she there for a political motive? only she can answer that. If she says no and that she was only there for lunch, and she can sleep peacefully at night after saying that. I certainly am sorry for that inconvenience..

Notice that in the video on youtube, i dun see the police being aggressive in their actions, they didn baton the woman to death, they hardly touched her. Just firm. In other countries, what civil rights? the police would just beat the crap out of you. Heck, it even happens in the US, the supposed land of human rights. Just go on the web and search for police brutality in US. Get ur answers there.

Sure, state the law, maybe the police were over euthusiatic abt enforcing it. But i rather that and avoid a possible confrontation that would put a blemish on our international reputation for safety and security. I thot the police handled it decently. But i would have allowed her to go in, and if she did sth she explicitly say she wasnt suppose to do, i’d bring her ass in so fast, she wun even be able to yell, "Chhheee…Byyy**…."

OK ranting over. Back to studying.

back!

October 9th, 2007 by shaunzechariah

I’m back after mid-terms and thank god some projs are done and over with. Now, have hall concert. I noe i’m not staying in hall anymore..so y help out? hmm…i struggle to find the answer myself. I think its more of trying to ease my frds workload, seeing them all tired and stressed out dampens ur mood too.

anyway, been checking out profiles every now and then(frds and others) I am quite curious as to y ppl like to write in their profiles under favourite books-"i dun read, erm textbooks? dun like books, magazines, instruction manuals??" erm….if u dun have anything to write in that column, leave it empty for goodness sake! y tell everyone that u have next to no concern if harry potter petrifies aragon and the hobbits work for voldermort, who is really sauron and wants to take over the whole of fantasia with 5 ppl u meet in heaven(the 3 musketeers + the little prince + robert langdon).

And Is it the IN thing now to flaunt ignorance or the complete lack of desire to gain intellectual knowledge?

Maybe i’m too touchy on this cause well, i’m a huge fan of books. Wat to do? didn have THAT many computer games to play when i was young. NO PSPs, play stations, sega saturns etc. books for company. books are still good company when ur on long flights, bored to bits with homework, or just a bed-time read b4 u sleep…

well..just another rant…dun mind me:P
